"We need art that does not offend anyone."

That a public official would say this is not very surprising given the way art has been used since the Reagan presidency as a political tool on the one hand, and a PR device on the other.

In a climate where art exists to serve the eco-political interests of those in power, and work that challenges that situation is either attacked or ignored, who can be surprised that a public official would say this? Apparently, Charles Paul Freund thinks it worthy of note.
